The Complete Checklist for Moving Out of Rental Properties
Moving can be stressful, especially when a deposit is at stake. Don’t risk losing out with our complete cleaning checklist. Remember! If you’re renting a shared property then you’re all responsible for its condition when you move out . . .
Kitchen
- Empty, clean and defrost fridge and freezer before switching off and leaving doors open
- Empty and clean cupboards
- Dust, vacuum and mop
- Wipe all appliances and tiles
- Clean oven, grill, hob and extractor fan
Bathroom
- Clean and disinfect the toilet, sink and shower/bath
- Wipe down any surfaces
- Scrub everywhere, including the grout
- Wipe mirrors
- Hoover and mop
Living areas
- Dust surfaces and move furniture back to its original position
- Vacuum the floors, making sure to use the vacuum nozzle where the carpet meets the skirting board
- Wipe windows and hard surfaces like coffee tables
Bedrooms
- Dust and wipe down furniture and move it to its original position
- Vacuum floors, making sure to use the vacuum nozzle where the carpet meets the skirting board
- Wipe windows and other hard surfaces like desks.
Outdoor areas
- Weed and tidy the garden if you’re responsible for it.
- Clean outdoor furniture
- Make sure there is no rubbish in the garden or you will be charged for its removal
Remember!
- Take meter readings and give this info, as well as your tenancy end date, to your utilities companies
- Check if you need to turn the heating off before you leave
- Lock all windows and doors
- Make sure you’ve notified the landlord or letting agency of your intention to move out!
- Recycle, sell, donate or gift any items you don’t want to take with you
- All bins should be empty and recycling sorted properly – don’t leave ANY rubbish in the property or you will be charged!
